Carla Sarvis, Glass Artist

Bill Regan

Glass artist, Carla Sarvis, creates intricate and pleasing pathways of color. Her pieces may have 100 cuts of glass and even smaller works contain numerous meticulously placed shapes. Her designs are soulful, evoking flavors of the Mediterranean and her strong artistic voice is rich, evocative and distinctive.

A native San Franciscan, Carla Sarvis has been involved in the creative process her whole life. Starting out as a dancer under the tutelage of Gloria Unti, Carla later explored theater arts and had a successful ten-year career in the field as a professional actor, teacher and stage director. She eventually spent another fourteen years working as a nonprofit administrator and program director in the fields of arts education, community service for women and girls, and civic arts programming. In 2003, Sarvis decided to leave the computer behind and once again, find her creative voice—this time in the medium of glass. She moved from San Francisco to West Sonoma County in 2005 and set up a professional studio. She has shown in numerous exhibitions and her work can be seen at the Graton Gallery.
